The Fed sits on the horns of a dilemma: a stalling job market, wages trailing inflation, and an unemployment rate improving for the wrong reason.

The Federal Reserve sits on the horns of a dilemma. The market is speaking loudly on the point.
The job market is struggling. The economy is not creating jobs. What growth exists sits in one sector, health care. Outside of that, net job creation is close to zero. The unemployment rate has come in over expectations in the last several months, but only because labor force participation is falling. Lose a job now and finding another is difficult, because almost no one is hiring. Hiring rates are at extreme lows. Discouraged workers step out of the labor market entirely, and the headline rate improves for the wrong reason.
